Embracing the Inevitable: AI and the Future of Art

Artificial Intelligence is here to stay—and it’s advancing faster than we can keep up. Understandably, many artists and supporters are concerned, with some forming strong resistance to AI in the arts. As we discussed the theme of our AI art exhibition, “Symbiosis or Schism: The AI Human Odyssey,” we wrestled with much internal conflict, ultimately concluding that resisting this shift is futile, and embracing it may unlock new creative possibilities.

‘It is not copying… It is rather translating into another language…’ — van Gogh

A major concern among artists is the issue of copyright and source material. Yet, art has always involved imitation. Greats like van Gogh, Michelangelo, and Warhol borrowed heavily from those before them, and their work is still recognized as uniquely powerful.

There’s also fear that AI might replace traditional art and threaten livelihoods. But art has always evolved with technology. Photography, for example, transformed art without erasing painting. In fact, when photography took over realism, Impressionism emerged as a new art movement. Likewise, AI is simply another tool—one that will never replace the human element, but will surely transform artists’ approach to art in unexpected ways.

Art is about expression and storytelling. Prompt-based AI art is just a collaborative dance between human and machine, where the nuanced language of the prompt becomes the tool for conveying the artist’s vision. It creates opportunities for people who lack technical skills or face physical challenges to express ideas they otherwise couldn’t. It’s a new chapter in creativity—not the end of it.
